Beginner Shop

$480.00

This entry-level course is designed to introduce high school students to general design and shop practices. Projects are designed to give students as much experience as possible through using different machines and tools, and instruction covers as many aspects of design, building, and woodworking as possible.  Students expand their knowledge and experience through various hands-on projects, lessons, and mechanical vocabulary and are expected to learn shop safety and the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery. Through lectures and demonstrations, the instructor introduces challenges such as designing projects with a budget, material selection, as well as project building, assembly, and finishing.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have shop skills that will be useful in any aspect of construction and industrial arts.  Additionally, the student will gain a broader understanding of construction processes as well as more in depth problem solving skills.

This course will also be a prerequisite to Furniture Design.
